- Senate committee takes on inappropriate imaging: A recently released Senate Finance Committee report calls for the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish a Diagnostic Imaging Exchange Network (DIEN) in five regions of the country, beginning in 2011. DIEN would assist physicians in determining the necessity, safety and appropriateness of ordering an imaging study, with the intent of minimizing duplicative scans and radiation exposure to patients.
- American Society of Radiologic Technologists, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists panel conclude that more education is necessary for CT utilization: “Ultimately, when medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals thoroughly understand CT operation, techniques and protocols, they can optimize dose and perform safer examinations”
